POWDER COATING COLOUR RANGES

The range of powder coating colour ranges is very extensive and in most cases will match any existing exterior paint colour in today's market.

Powder Coating colours are available from several suppliers which have the same colour ranges although they may not have the same name or code.

Pelican Panels use Akzo Nobel and Dulux ranges.

A powder coated finish is recognised as one of the most durable surfaces available and depending on its installed location and regular maintenance, you can be assured of a great looking finish that will last for many years.

MAINTENANCE

To keep your Pelican fence looking good, simply wash and wipe down with a soft broom occasionally to remove any dust or mineral salt build-up and cobwebs. Avoid spraying the fence with chemical garden sprays or bringing into contact with fertilisers. Keep fence panels clear of soil. It is beneficial to maintain a small gap between the fence and the ground at all times.

If surface damage accidentally occurs it can easily be fixed. A light sanding of the affected area and respray using powder coating touch up spray to prevent further damage to the colour finish is all that is required. Touch-up cans are available from your retailer/contractor

or direct from the factory.

Colour Finish

Your quality Pelican Fencing product is finished in powder coated material not only to give aesthetic enhancement but to protect it from the elements. This durable colour coating is electrostatically applied and thermally bonded at 200 degrees Centigrade after extensive pre-treatment using zinc phosphate. This ensures excellent adhesion, helping to resist fading, weathering and corrosion. All that is required is an occasional rinse with the hose to keep it looking clean and new.

Technique
Powder Coating Tubular Steel.
Prior to powder coating a recognised pre treatment is required. A solution of hot water and iron phosphate with special detergents is used to remove dirt and oils. This leaves the galvabond tube with a protective iron phosphate coating.

Panels are then placed on an overhead line ready for powder coating. The powder is applied by a gemma electrostatic hand gun.

Powder used by our coater is from Akzo Nobel and Dulux. All panels and fittings are batched by colour and loaded into the gas oven for firing. A thermostat reaction occurs at 200 degrees centigrade, melting the powder. As the oven cools the molten powder hardens to form the cured layer of colour coating.

Additional Techniques for Aluminium Powder Coating.
In addition to the techniques used in steel coating the following preparation is used for aluminium.

A 5 stage pre-treatment process of aluminium products is required prior to powder coating. This involves panels being submerged in various chemical solutions for a specified time as set out in AS3715.

  1. Acid Etching-using hydrochloric/sulfuric acid
  2. Water rinse
  3. Chromate wash
  4. Chromate rinse
  5. Demineralised rinse
